KUCHING: Non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the state that wish to assist the needy during the movement control order (MCO) period are encouraged to register with the Sarawak Social Welfare Department.

Minister of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said it was important for NGOs to register with the department in order to have proper coordination during the MCO period.

“This is also to ensure that they follow the correct distribution procedures in compliance with the MCO such as practising social distancing,” she said.

It is also for record purposes so that the department can keep track of the items distributed.

Fatimah said to date, 13 or so NGOs statewide had handed over aid to the department.

Among these NGOs are Persatuan Persahabatan Zong Ho Bintulu; BEM Bandar Limbang (SMK Limbang); Jabatan Amal Bintulu; Pertubuhan Sukarelawan Kebajikan Miri; Yayasan Amal Malaysia; Sahabat I-Care; Pertubuhan Meninggikan Akhlak Che Chuan Khor Sri Aman; Methodist Chinese Sarikei; Lions Club of Sarikei; Chinese Chamber Of Commerce and Industry Sarikei; Persatuan Suri dan Anggota Wanita Bomba dan Penyelamat  Negeri Sarawak (Perisma) and Kwong Eng Methodist Church.
