KUCHING: More than 100 participants signed up for the Sarawak Motif Design Challenge but just over half were found eligible here.
In stating this, Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Permanent Secretary Datuk Sherrina Hussaini said over 50 entries were accepted after their motif painting works met the programme criteria.
“Today, 10 finalists from all over Sarawak, including Bintulu, Sibu and Dalat, have successfully reached the final stage to receive certificates and three winners have also been selected.
“I would like to congratulate the winners and finalists. I believe this programme has also helped identify the talent of Sarawak’s youth in traditional motif art as well as the goal of realising their potential with opportunities in the art industry and tourism,” she said.
She was speaking the event’s award presentation at Pustaka Negeri Sarawak on yesterday (July 23).
The programme was organised by Dewan Muda, Dewan Usahawan Bumiputera Sarawak (DUBS) and Koperasi Belia Inovatif Sarawak Berhad, with the support of Pustaka Negeri Sarawak and CENTEXS Commercial to bring Sarawak motif textile designs and art to a higher level.
“We will enact a policy so that we can further enhance the creative industry,” she said.
Also present at the event were chief executive officer (CEO) of Sarawak State Library, Japri Bujang, chief technology unit, CENTEXS Commercial Christoper Linggoh and Dewan Muda, DUBS chief, Khairulnizam Datuk Seri Mohamed Khalid.
