MIRI: Three people including a 52-year-old woman were killed in a head-on collision involving a car and motorcycle along Jalan Miri-Bintulu, here on Wednesday night (June 9).

Sarawak Traffic Investigation and Enforcement chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the victims were identified as Mohammad Mukmin Sholehin Abdul Rahim, 31, Roland Garunsin, 26, and Maria Andam, 52.

“Preliminary investigation found that the motorist was on his way to Bintulu before losing control of the vehicle and slipped into the opposite lane due to speeding.

“The car then collided with the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction before both vehicles skidded to the side of the road.

“The driver of the car, the motorcyclist and the pillion rider died at the scene,” he said in a statement yesterday (June 10).

The car’s front end and roof was crushed while the motorcycle was split into two as a result of the collision.

“The case is being investigated under section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and further investigations are still ongoing,” added Alexson.
