MIRI: A woman suffered burns to her hands and leg after her car crashed into a tree and caught fire on Monday night.

According to State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Supt Alexson Naga Chabu, the woman in her 30s was driving along Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass near Shell Station Permyjaya here when the accident occurred around 11pm.

The woman was heading towards Miri city from Brunei when she lost control of her car and skidded to the right side of the road before crashing into a road divider and a tree.

“The impact of the crash caused the car to catch fire.

“A few passers-by immediately came to her rescue. She suffered burn injuries and was rushed to Miri Hospital by an ambulance,” he said in a statement.

Meanwhile, a team of firefighters from Lopeng fire station was rushed to the scene to put out the fire.

The case is being investigated under Rule 10 LN 166/59 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959.
