KUCHING: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is responsible and inclusive in providing support to activities and programmes that have been planned to benefit Dayak women.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he was proud of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) and supported its emphasis on the four strategic cores of education, empowerment, human resource development and preservation of culture.

“With this SIDS, it helps in assisting the establishment of Research Chair Tan Sri Empiang Jabu at Univeristi Putra Malaysia to carry out research and training to further develop our women.

“In addition, it ensures that Sarakup has a “home” to carry out its activities, and the development of an entrepreneur incubator to help women in business,” he said.

He said this in a text of speech read by the Minister in the Premier’s Department, Datuk John Sikie Tayai at the opening ceremony of the Triennial General Meeting of SIDS 2023 held at the Grand Margherita Hotel here on Saturday.

The Premier congratulated SIDS for establishing the Tabung Pendidikan Teluk Barbara Mendu which he described as timely and showed SIDS’s commitment to helping rural Dayak children.

At the event, SIDS launched a book titled “Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak, Perjalanan Kami” which outlines the achievements of 65 years and the journey in uniting Dayak women in Sarawak.
