KUCHING: Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has proposed the establishment of a Smart Road Infrastructure Sandbox programme.

This initiative aims to create a collaborative platform for government agencies and industry stakeholders to share innovative ideas concerning cutting-edge technologies for road infrastructure.

Nanta said the submitted ideas will undergo testing in specific locations across the country, and the most successful concepts will be refined for application in road maintenance, infrastructure development, and construction projects.

“I was made to understand that such a pilot programme has been conducted by PLUS Malaysia Berhad for the Smart Highway Sandbox programme.

“I believe it is time for the Works Ministry to introduce the Smart Road Infrastructure Sandbox to benefit the 33.4 million Malaysians who use the country’s road infrastructure.

“Innovative initiatives resulting from his expertise and the existing knowledge at the ministry and its agencies can be showcased to assess their effectiveness,” he said in a Facebook post following his attendance at a Technical Competency Certificate Award Ceremony by the Malaysia Public Works Department (PWD) in Melaka today (Nov 2).
