BELADIN: Over 30 storm-affected homes excluded from welfare aid for not meeting the eligibility criteria may receive donations from the service centre of elected representatives here.

According to the Betong Divisional Social Welfare Office (PKMB), only 14 houses are eligible for disaster relief.

Betong assemblyman Razaili Gapor is currently evaluating the aid provided to the victims.

“We are trying to ease the burden of all the victims according to our abilities.

“The service centre acknowledges 39 additional houses that do not meet the eligibility criteria according to PKMB Betong’s assessment.

“So, I and Batang Lupar MP Mohamad Shafizan Kepli through the service centre will look at it wholly to reduce their burden.

“Three unoccupied houses have collapsed and the houses with occupants who are working outside are also significantly affected. We will assess the assistance that will be given,” he said after inspecting houses affected by the storm here, yesterday.

“Our hope is that all the victims will willingly accept any aid that is given to them.

“Thankfully the incident on Saturday night did not involve any casualties,” he said.

Yesterday, he and Shafizan presented food basket donations from the service centre to those involved.

Razaili asked PKMB Betong to provide a more detailed report of the aid that was distributed.

“I asked community leaders and tribal leaders (KMKK) to register the houses involved for easy identification of needs,” he added.

He thanked grassroots leaders and agencies that went to the field, particularly PKMB Betong and Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), for promptly providing food baskets.
