DRESS UP, a new Malaysian children’s fashion label, will debut at the CollabStore at the Four Seasons Place in Kuala Lumpur next month. With outfits in fun casual colours, founders Nur Azura Lim, also known as Suz, and Shafik Affandi are always happy to make children’s fantasies a reality.

Turning fantasies into reality

With an increasing market for children’s fashion, it was refreshing to see a new Malaysian children’s fashion label.

DRESS UP is by a Kuala Lumpur-based company that has been involved in children’s talent training and pageants in Malaysia and everywhere for many years.

The brand, founded by Nur Azura Lim aka Suz and Shafik Affandi, will make its debut in October at the CollabStore at Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur.

According to Suz, dressing up is also a social activity. Children usually enjoy dressing up with their friends and taking on different roles to create and act out stories.

“Dressing up is a great way for children of all ages to build up their social skills and strengthen their bonds with others,” she said, adding that many mothers have sought her advice on fashion wear for their children.

Suz is from Kuching, where she attended St Mary’s School and lived at Batu Lintang before relocating to Kuala Lumpur to pursue a career.

A former corporate master of telesales marketing, she was instrumental in pioneering renowned business concepts such as Touch & GO and LinkClub Card.

Recognised for her achievements in lifestyle tourism, she received the coveted CEO Award for Malaysian Airlines (MAS) Golden Boutique Award, which is one of Malaysia’s most impeccable telesales and marketing services achievement award.

Owing to her creative talent, vast experience in telesales marketing, and management of several business organisations, she has a long and extensive list of businesses that she has successfully developed over her 23 years in corporate life.

“It was not easy to develop DRESS UP with my partner and co-designer Shafiq, but we are happy to help children in imagining their fantasies,” said Suz, whose attention is now drawn to the needs of children, as she is also a dedicated mother.

Looking at some of the events that they held at shopping malls and hotel ballrooms, it seems like that the kids did well on the runways.

Suz is well-known in the arena of grand international pageantry as the Queen of Malaysian & International Worldwide Kids’ Pageants. Under her wing are 18 children’s international pageantry titles.

Her other fashion brand, VoiLà, produces national costume designs and has won multiple international awards.

Suz has done over eight fashion shows in Malaysia over the past two years and will continue to build on this success under the new branding of DRESS UP.

Her studio in Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, provides training for kid pageants, and her workshop creates beautiful customised wears.

We wondered what ready-to-wear would be available under the new label DRESS UP.

According to Suz, Malaysia is a tropical country with more warm days than cold, thus there is no need for seasonal clothes except for cultural festivities.

As such, DRESS UP will feature fun casual clothes in sunny yellow, violets and electric purple, sweet pink, nude, and awesome red.

DRESS UP is sponsoring three shiny crowns for the JIN JIA SUI event, a Nyonya dinner at TAI TAI restaurant in Kuching this Saturday (Sept 16).

The best dressed in Nyonya kebaya under the categories of Most Authentic, Best in New Nyonya Kebaya, and Best Fusion Style will each receive a beautiful crown.

The JIN JIA SUI event will feature a special appearance from Paris Boukendoul, a model for children’s wear and a talented performer who has several titles in international kid pageants.
