SIBU: The younger generation is urged not to readily surrender when confronted with challenges in the workforce.

Tellian assemblyman Royston Valentine said that the younger generation, regardless of their field of work, must have a fighting spirit.

He added that these individuals’ potential could be observed in schools.

“The training institutes they enter not only prepare them to become proficient workers but also to have strong personalities to confront any challenges in their respective career paths,” he said.

Royston made these remarks at the passing out ceremony for 58 Marine Engineering Rating and Marine Deck Apprentices at Lakis Hall here today.

Meanwhile, on the programme, Royston congratulated all the trainees for completing the three-month training and reminded them, especially those who would have the opportunity to work abroad, to be ethical and highly disciplined.

He pointed out that sailors, especially those from Sarawak, would be highly regarded by others if they displayed good conduct and a strong work ethic.

“To Sarawakian sailors who have the opportunity to work outside Malaysia, uphold the good reputation of the country and the state of Sarawak with good behaviour and a positive work attitude.

“It will be a source of pride for us when outsiders see and evaluate sailors from Sarawak as not just ordinary sailors. We are quality sailors with high values in carrying out our daily tasks,” he said.

Also present were the managing director of Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd (PMSB) Masni Amit, Pelita Maslaut Sdn Bhd (PMSB) general manager Mohamad Nazim Masni and others.
