KUCHING: A 10-year-old boy was killed in an accident along KM3, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa on Saturday.

State Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department Supt Alexson Naga Chabu said the 10-year-old victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) at 6.20am yesterday.

He said Arif Fahmi Cassidy, who hailed from Kampung Sindang, Kota Samarahan was cycling with a group of five prior to the incident.

In the 10.30pm accident, Arif collided with a compact car driven by a 33-year-old man from Kelantan.

Alexson said the driver was making his way back to Taman Desa Ilmu from a government office in Samarahan.

“As the driver was approaching KM3, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, he saw a group of cyclists who were riding in the same direction. As he was about to pass them, one of the cyclists made a U-turn.

“The driver tried to avoid the collision but failed, as there was an incoming car in front, which led to the collision,” Alexson said when contacted.

Following the impact of the crash, the cyclist suffered severe injuries to his head. The driver was unharmed in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
