16 roads to close for Maulidur Rasul procession

KUCHING: There will be 16 road closures for the coming Maulidur Rasul procession at Padang Merdeka this Thursday (Sept 28).

Kuching police chief ACP Ahsmon Bajah said in a statement that the routes will be closed off from 5.30 am on the day of the procession and reopen once the procession is finished.

The roads that will be closed are as follows:

1. Jalan Gambier/Market/Power/Masjid P. Ramlee
2. RTM traffic light (Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg / Satok)
3. Jalan Main Bazaar
4. Jalan Lebuh Wayang/Jalan Wawasan
5. Jalan Mcdougall
6. Jalan Haji Taha
7. Jalan Kulas Utara 2
8. Jalan Muhibbah
9. Jalan Muda Hashim
10. Jalan Satok
11. Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman
12. Jalan Chan Chin Ann
13. Jalan Song Thian Cheok
14. Jalan Ban Hock
15. Ban Hock roundabout
16. St Mary traffic light

“Members of the public, who wish to see the procession, are advised to park their vehicles at Saujana building, Plaza Merdeka, Reservoir Park, Aurora Plaza, Civic Centre and Majma Mall.

“The public should not to park their vehicles by the roadside so as not to disturb the traffic flow and to obey the instructions of the police officers on duty,” he said.

The state-level procession will be attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Raghad Kurdi.

Ahsmon said the procession, comprising of 240 contingents with an estimated total of 10,285 participants, will start and end at Padang Merdeka.
