172 victims remain in relief centres at 3 pm

KUCHING: The number of flood victims in Kuching, Bau and Siburan districts has decreased to 172 people involving 50 families as at 3 pm today (Mar 1), compared to 282 people in the morning.

According to the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), there are now five temporary relief centres (PPS) opened to accommodate the victims after one of them was closed.

The PPS that was closed at 12 noon was the Balai Raya Kampung Opar in Bau which has accommodated nine victims since Tuesday (Feb 28).

In Kuching, the relief centre housing the highest number of victims is SJK Chung Hua Batu Kawa PPS, with 80 people from 19 families.

Meanwhile, Surau Nur Hidayah PPS at Kampung Batu Kitang Jaya is now accommodating 23 people from 11 families while the Dewan Serbaguna Batu Kitang Jaya is providing shelter to 22 victims from five families.

The Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Mundai PPS in Siburan is currently housing 27 victims from seven families.

In Bau, only one PPS remains open at Dewan Datuk Seri Mohammad Hamdan, Bau fire station, which houses 20 victims from eight families.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) on Tuesday issued a warning of continuous rain for several areas in Sarawak, which is expected to last until tomorrow (Mar 2).
