180 students given free choice of Raya clothes

KUCHING: Yayasan Kebajikan Negara (YKN) launched the Asnaf Donation Programme to help those in need, especially students in the B40 group, for their preparations of celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri this year.

YKN this year has chosen the first three locations in Sarawak in the Santubong Parliamentary area, including the Tanjung Datu, Pantai Damai and Demak Laut constituencies.

The programme held today was officiated at by Santubong MP and Minister of Women, Family and Community Development Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, at Parkway Lundu Supermarket and Mydin Vista Tunku Supermarket here.

Nancy, who is also the YKN Chairman, said that the programme saw an involvement of 180 students in need from the three related constituencies.

“This morning, a total of 50 children received donations in Lundu and here (Mydin), a total of 130 children will be given the opportunity to choose their own clothes at the Mydin Supermarket to celebrate the coming Hari Raya.

“So with this programme, we hope that it can cheer up the children and families in need especially to make preparations to celebrate Raya later as well as enlivening up the atmosphere and celebration of Aidilfitri among them,” she said.

She pointed this out when officiating at the Program Kasih Ramadan YKN in collaboration with Alliance Islamic Bank Berhad at Mydin Vista Tunku here.

Nancy also said that in this programme, the students selected in the three constituencies with the help of the state education officer, have the opportunity to choose a pair of Baju Kurung or Baju Melayu.

Therefore, she said, in fasting month of Ramadan for all Muslims is not only a month for prayers, but also an opportunity to improve on charity among them.

“This programme is also a collaborative network of corporate companies through corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in providing social welfare services to the target groups.

“Therefore, YKN together with Alliance Islamic Bank have sponsored donations of Hari Raya clothing amounting to RM27,000.

“I also call on corporate companies, NGOs or individuals to channel donations directly to YKN to be systematically distributed directly to recipients.

“Each cash donation will be given a tax exemption receipt under the Income Tax Act 1967,” she said.
