200 UNIMAS students receive zakat

KUCHING: A total of 200 students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) received zakat or tithe contributions from Petroliam Nasional Bhd (PETRONAS).

The contributions were handed over during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house, organised by PETRONAS at Hilton Hotel here on Wednesday.

The Raya open house was attended by fellow industry partners, media practitioners, representatives of Royal Malaysia Police (PRDM) and others.

A wide array of dishes was served during the open house, ranging from traditional to modern Sarawak cuisine.

Datuk Adif Zulkifli, who is the executive vice president/chief executive officer of PETRONAS Upstream, handed over the zakat to deputy vice chancellor (Student’s Affair and Alumni) of UNIMAS, Professor Ir Dr Al-Khalif Othman.

Each of the students received a RM500 zakat contribution from PETRONAS.

During the Raya open house, PETRONAS also delivered “duit raya” to 60 recipients consisting of orphans from Pusat Jagaan Nur Murni.

Each of the recipient received RM60, which was handed over by State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar.

Present during the ceremony were Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and other distinguished guests.
