SIBU: Junior Chamber International (JCI) Sibu presented 2,000 pieces of face masks to the public here in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.

The masks were given away at the central market here yesterday.

Community leader Kapitan Connie Loh, who was the main sponsor of the event, said in giving out face masks, they were taking the opportunity to raise the public’s awareness on the disease.

“We also want to remind the people to take precautions in practising good hygiene such as washing their hands regularly, monitoring their body temperature, and avoid touching their faces,” she said.

Loh added that it was important to keep abreast of news and development regarding Covid-19.

“Should anyone feel sick, he or she should seek treatment as soon as possible and wear a mask to not spread the virus to others, even if it is just a normal flu because it is important to stay healthy,” she added.

She said although the state is still free of the disease, it is important to be careful as it has spread to many countries.

“While there is nothing much we can do about it, we must at least be sure that we take the necessary measures to protect our homeland from this deadly disease,” she said.
