250 attend course on HFMD prevention

SIBU: A total of 250 people participated in the prevention of hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD) refresher course held at the campus of University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) here today.

The participants included nursery and preschool teachers.

Sibu Health Officer Dr Teh Jo Hun was present to conduct a briefing on the current situation of HFMD and rabies.

Other speakers from Sibu Health Department were epidemiology officer Dr Aren Sinedeh Lemin, environment health officer Chong Kuek Sen and nursing chief officer Chew Hong Hun.

Dr Aren enlightened the participants with treatment, control and prevention of HFMD, Chong on guidelines for the handling of children in nurseries and schools while Chew touched on the importance of hand hygiene and a demonstration of the seven steps of hand washing.

According to Chong, the event held on a yearly basis was aimed to create an awareness to refresh the domain of the operators especially for the nurseries and preschools here.
