KUCHING: The Sessions Court today (Dec 15) sentenced a local man to six years in prison and 10 strokes of the rotan for possessing 38.06 grams of crystal methamphetamine in June.

Christopher, 28, pleaded guilty to the offence when read out to him by the court interpreter before Judge Afidah Abdul Rahman.

The accused stored the drugs in a hut at an orchard at Kampung Bogag, Bau, at about 7am, on June 22.

Police raided the hut in Kampung Bogag upon suspicion of drug activities and arrested Rody who tried to escape.

The police then carried out a search and found three plastic packets containing suspected crystal methamphetamine.

The drugs were then sent to the Chemist Department and the report confirmed that it was methamphetamine weighing 38.06 grams.

The suspect pleaded for a reduced sentence because he has health problems such as being HIV positive and suffering from tuberculosis in addition to the fact that the offence was committed for the first time.

He was charged under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohamad Aiman Mutallib Mohamad Shariff prosecuted while the accused was not represented.
