282 arrested in special operation

KUCHING: The police have conducted a Special Raid Operation across Sarawak, arresting 282 individuals for drug offences.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said that during the operation, 656.63 grams of various drugs, valued at RM 42,911.60, were seized.

“The operation, dubbed Ops Tapis, led to the arrest of 29 drug traffickers (including 6 foreigners), 169 drug addicts (9 foreigners), 20 wanted persons, and 64 individuals (3 foreigners) involved in drug-related activities,” he said.

“From January to March 6, the police made 2,312 arrests, including 154 drug traffickers, and confiscated drugs worth RM 7,624,751.34. Assets suspected of being proceeds from drug trafficking, valued at RM 557,294.95, were also seized.”

The operation aimed to detect and arrest drug traffickers, eliminate drug trafficking locations, address persistent drug addiction, apprehend wanted individuals related to drug offences, and prevent drug dealing activities.

“A total of 342 inspections were conducted in areas such as People’s Housing Projects (PPRT), plantations, fishing jetties, villages, housing estates, shop houses, and other locations,” he added.

The arrests were made under several sections, including Section 39B ADB 1952; Section 39A(2) ADB 1952; Section 39A(1) ADB 1952; Section 39C ADB 1952; Section 12(2) ADB 1952; Section 3(1) ADB (LLPK) 1985; Section 15(1)(a) ADB 1952, and for Wanted Persons.
