300 attend career carnival in Siniawan

BAU: More than 300 job seekers attended a career carnival at Siniawan Community Hall recently.

A total of 20 companies including four from Peninsular Malaysia offering 1,761 vacancies participated in the one-day carnival, the second to be held in the Puncak Borneo constituency.

From the total of 1,761 vacancies, 20 were for university graduates while the rest were for non-graduates. Interviews were also conducted on the spot.

The carnival was organised by the state Labour Department.

Prior to this, the carnival was also held at several locations including Mukah, Lawas, Kuching, and Bintulu, attracting some 2,500 job seekers, and out of that 583 have been offered jobs.

Puncak Borneo MP Willie Mongin visited the carnival and was briefed by the state Labour Department.

When met by reporters, Willie said, “This is one of the ways our government assists our youths, those who are unemployed,

graduates, and school leavers to secure employment,” he added.

He also advised job seekers not to be picky in choosing their first jobs, adding that from there they would obtain the necessary experience and skills to secure better jobs.

He said the carnival would continue to be held annually in the Puncak Borneo

constituency.

The state Labour Department in a statement said it would organise a ‘Jelajah Kerjaya’ programme from August 14 to 19 in Kota Samarahan, Betong, Sibu and Miri.
