Speaking when officiating at the event, Councillor Kiing Teck Ho advised the pupils to participate in preventing rabies.

“When you see stray animals, refrain from approaching them and inform your parents or other adults, such as school headmaster and teachers.

“Everyone can contribute to preventing rabies. When encountering stray animals, avoid approaching them and inform adults to take appropriate measures. Most importantly, let’s collectively take responsibility for preventing rabies by responsibly caring for our pets.

“As dog owners, ensuring our pets stay in secure areas is not only for their safety but also for the health of the community. Let’s work together to contribute to building a safer community,” he said.

Stating that pet ownership comes with responsibilities, he stressed that dog owners should ensure that their pets do not roam freely to reduce infection risks and prevent accidents.

Additionally, he advised that regular rabies vaccinations for pets are crucial to ensure they are protected from infection.

Rabies is a dangerous infectious disease that spreads through bites from infected dogs or wild animals, he cautioned, adding that only through collective efforts can a safer and healthier community be created.

He also pointed out that recent reports about rabies-related deaths in Sarawak serve as a constant reminder for vigilance.
