KUCHING: The new committee of the 3rd Mile Recreation Club of Kuching was formally installed during its 2019 Installation Ceremony Dinner last Saturday night at a leading restaurant in Batu Tiga here.

Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman who is also Batu Kitang assemblyman Lo Khere Chiang attended the event representing Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian. He also witnessed the installation of its new office bearers.

Organising dinner chairman Gerald Goh said in his speech the 3rd Mile Recreation Club established two years ago was to promote positive energy among society members through holding various recreational activities.

“Our active body gives opportunities for its members to be fully supportive of each other and thereby giving warm driving force among themselves, mutually benefitting each other in terms of positive interactions and partaking in healthy activities that could contribute to the wellbeing of our state’s future.

“We are Sarawakians and what we want is equal status with Malaya as one of the three regions of Malaysia, not 11 + 2 and just one of thirteen states as it means we are not equally respected,” he said.

In his officiating address Lo said that under the efforts of the 3rd Mile Recreation Club president Jong Mui Eng and all its members, the progress of the club has been very smooth and has made the life of the members more fruitful and motivating.

The cake cutting ceremony held on stage during last Saturday’s dinner.

“The second term office bearers of the recreation club will be sworn-in tonight, after taking office, which will certainly to be very active in promoting and leading the club forward,” he said.

Lo hoped that the recreation club will continue to consolidate the strength of its members and organise various recreational activities, so as to make a difference in education, society, welfare and even in philanthropy.

He added that at the same time, the recreation club should pay more attention to the various issues, especially those involving Sarawak.

“I hope that the government will show good faith and make good changes to the amendment Bill in accordance with the demands of the Sarawak people,” he stated.

Later the dinner saw the ribbon cutting ceremony done by new office bearers and members of the recreation club, their renewal of pledges, the signing of memorandum, stage performances and lucky draw sessions.
