4 suspects caught for illegal online gambling

BAU: Police here arrested another suspect believed to be involved in online gambling sales activity for three consecutive days.

Earlier on Saturday, two women, ages 18 and 19, were arrested for the same offence in Tondong area. The next day (Sunday), another 41-year-old male suspect was also detained in Kampung Serasot for the same offence.

The latest arrest was made through ‘Op Dadu’ yesterday at an unnumbered convenience store in Jambusan town around 12.30pm.

According to Bau police chief DSP Poge Nyaon in a statement, the team has detained a 47-year-old woman, who was suspected of engaging in online gambling sales activity.

A phone, a SIM card and a sum of cash were also seized from her.

The suspect, who had no prior criminal history, was taken to the police station along with the seized items.

The case is being investigated under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming House Act 1953, which carries for a fine up to RM50,000 or a jail term up to three years, if convicted.
