SIMUNJAN: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dato’ Sri Hajah Nancy Shukri said the women are an important part and parcel of the family, apart from giving vital contributions in enhancing the economy of the nation.
In her speech when offiiciating a ‘Jom Zumba Sihat’ event held by Sarawak Women Institute or better known as Persatuan Perkumpulan Wanita Sarawak (PPWS) and SABERKAS at the Simunjan Central Ground, she said the roles of women are not just confined to being a wife and mother but to other roles that have big impact in the community development and nation-building.
Around 500 people were present at the Simunjan Central Ground to partake in the event that started from 7am and ended at 12noon yesterday.
“Women are the sources of inspiration and as such they should be able to stand on their two feet, be independent, wise and with an income of their own in order to get on further with their own self-development as well as in enhancing the income of their families.
“There is no more such terminology as the women being only confined to the kitchen. Women nowadays should be able to think maturedly and be part of nation-building,” she pointed out adding that women are also agents of change.
The event was highlighted with the launch of Nancy’s collection of songs that she performed during functions and events that she attended in the past.
Nancy said the event was held to attract and gather women from all walks of life and all levels of society to share information apart from enjoying each other’s company.
Also present were Simunjan State Assemblyman Awla Dris and other officials.
