SIBU: Fifty-two longhouse chiefs (Tuai Rumah) here yesterday received their re-appointment letters while one longhouse chief received her new appointment letter.

The new longhouse chief is Tuai Rumah Jenny Edwin.

The handing over of the appointment letters was officiated by Sibu Resident Charles Siaw, witnessed by Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian.

The event was held at the Sibu Resident Office here.

On the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK), Dr Sim said that 5,900 leaders of the JKKKs in Sarawak would receive their January allowance payments by the end of this month.

He said many logistical problems and procedures delayed the payments.

However, the allowance payments would be ready for distribution by the end of the month and would be for two months.

Dr Sim thanked the JKKKs for doing a great job in helping the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government and in becoming the eyes and ears of the people.
