KUCHING: The 52 lots of land that will be returned to Sarawak by the federal government are considered valuable to the state according to Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

The youth chief of Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) stated this as the land is mostly located in urban areas.

“That being said, we understand these lands were acquired in line with the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) for purposes of development.

“However they are now returned to the state and made good through negotiation, discussion, goodwill and consensus,” he said in a statement today.

He added that instead of being left idle, the state could now plan for it to be turned into sports facilities such as velodromes, offices or other high end infrastructure projects.

“The state is now undergoing vigorous development progress.

“Gradually all the terms in the MA63 will be recovered and made good for the goodness of Sarawak,” he added.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said that the federal government has agreed to return 55 lots of land that were acquired from the Sarawak and Sabah governments in accordance with the MA63.
