8 arrested in connection with murder

MIRI: An Indonesian woman and seven local men were arrested in connection with the death of a man who was believed to have stolen a handphone belonging to one of the suspects on Saturday night.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said the victim was caught by the suspects earlier that day and was believed to have been assaulted.

After the alleged assault incident, they took the victim to Miri Central Police Station (CPS) using a four-wheel drive (4WD) car.

Upon arrival at the police station around 9.35pm, the man succumbed to his injuries sustained from the assault.

A team from the Miri Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was despatched to the police station to inspect the victim.

The body was taken to Miri Hospital for a post-mortem.

The suspects, aged between 20 and 40, were placed under police custody to assist with the investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
