SDMAA exponents celebrate taking home six medals.

KUCHING: Sarawak’s traditional martial art Kuntau Dayak exponents showed their prowess by winning two gold, one silver and three bronze medals at the World of Martial Arts in Chungju, South Korea recently.

Participating for the first time in the tournament did not hinder the Sarawak and Malaysia exponents from impressing the world.
For SDMAA president Irwin Catland Nanson, it was a proud milestone.

SDMAA exponents celebrate taking home six medals.

“One of the main challenges was the climate in Korea which caused some of our participants to fall sick.
“Nevertheless, they are still able to succeed despite poor health,“ said Irwin. “They have performed well and I am very proud with their achievements,” he added.

Besides taking home six medals, the squad also received a special award for being the most popular team throughout the championship. According to Irwin, SDMAA will continue to work on developing a back-up national squad for future tournaments.

“We will continue the intensive training later in preparation for the team to participate in the upcoming tournament.
“We will be looking for more talents to develop our martial arts throughout Sarawak, “Irwin said.
