KUCHING: Despite incessant rain due to the current monsoon season, Metrocity Uptown traders at Jalan Matang still operate their stalls from Wednesday till Saturday weekly.
Several stall operators at the Metrocity Night Market (also called N6 Youth Night Market) were interviewed during the third anniversary celebration, last Saturday.
Amalina Afifiyati, who sells accessories and clothes called ‘Rayyarue’, said it was her fifth month at the market.
“Before this, I only sell my goods online. When I saw that they are opening spaces for the night market, I decided to try my luck,” she said.
“It really helped me to expand and attract more customers. The location of the market is very strategic being in a business district of Petra Jaya,” she said.
Amalina was also satisfied with the size of her booth.
“The rent really commensurate with the number of days that we open for business,” she said.
Amy Dee, a works at a pizza stall said the owner had been planning to join the Metrocity Night Market due to the amazing public response.
“We joined the night market last July and our customers have responded well. Even though sometimes the weather is not good, we just go on after repairing our stall,” she said.
Shazza Wani, another worker at the same stall, said during those days when their business was slow, they would share the leftover food with other stall operators.
“It feels like we are a big family here,” she said.
Siti Aisyah Abdullah, another stall operator selling cosmetics said that even heavy rain could not stop her from doing business.
“Rain can’t dampen my business spirit. No matter how the weather is, I still open my booth. It has been two years since I started,” she said.
Aisyah also added that she was excitedly waiting for a ‘container park’ project proposed by Tupong assemblyman, Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman, who is also PBB Youth Chief.
Aii Abdullah, another food stall operator, has been a part of the market since 2016. She is looking forward to the upcoming ‘container park’ project which could help the individual stall operators and boost the market as a whole.
“I’ve been at the night market at Metrocity for three years now. I believe the ‘container project’ could attract more visitors.
“The park could really help the stall operators as they would not have to do so much to set up their booths and protect them from bad weather,” she said.
All the interviewees also thanked Fazzrudin for organising the night market and the upcoming ‘container park’.
