SCV AR-VR App to provide immersive and interactive visitor’s experience

KUCHING: Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV) has incorporated Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) on its traditional houses to provide a rich, immersive and interactive experience for visitors.

These facilities are part of SCV’s new development to allow visitors to experience a fully immersive cultural tour when they enter the village.

Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) deputy general manager Edwin Abit said, in line with the state government’s initiatives to revolutionise the state’s economy to digital economy, SCV decided to utilise AR-VR to give its visitors a more memorable experience of Sarawak’s rich cultural heritage.

“Visitors are becoming more sophisticated, and SCV not only has to be innovative to increase the engagement, but also to surpass their expectations,” he added during the SCV AR-VR App soft launching at SCV here yesterday.

The app provides the showtimes and an interactive tour for visitors to preview parts of the villages.

“The AR Scan feature requires visitors to scan the QR codes at each house to display a 3D model of the house.

“Visitors can also select Audio tour to learn more about the attraction. It will also feature showtime reminders and special promotion on food and souvenir,” he said, adding that visitors can uncover digital stamps when the app is in the proximity of the beacon located at the attraction.

“Frequent visitors of SCV can purchase the ticket via the app and use the QR code provided for a hassle-free entry to the village,” he pointed out.

For the children, Edwin revealed that an interactive Tribal Hunt is underway with an interactive Treasure Hunt featured within the app.

“Participants have to search for clues of tribal objects in and around the village to uncover the hidden treasure by scanning the object on the app,” he said, adding that the highest scoring winners would win exotic collectibles such as SCV’s limited edition t-shirt, keychains and tribal fridge magnet.

The SCV AR-VR App developed by Karuna Sarawak Entreprise Sdn Bhd will be available for download on Google Play and App Store in one week’s time.

In conjunction with SCV’s 30th anniversary, the app is expected to be officially launch on Feb 15 by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.

Also present were SCV general manager Jane Lian Labang, SCV Sales, Marketing and Event director Zaini Zainuddin and Karuna Sarawak Entreprise Sdn Bhd director Melvin Ong.
