KUCHING: One positive Covid-19 case was recorded in the state today (Jul 6), ending the seven-day streak of zero case recorded statewide.

State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the total number of Covid-19 cases statewide is currently at 572.

According to him, the latest case is an imported case involving a 22-year-old local female student who returned from the United Kingdom last Wednesday (Jul 1).

“She arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on July 1 and Bintulu on July 3 and was undergoing quarantine there. She was tested on July 4 and was found to be Covid-19 positive,” he said when delivering SDMC’s daily Covid-19 update today (Jul 6).

He said there were also three newly discharged Covid-19 patients, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 549 or 95.98 percent.

“There are six Covid-19 patients currently receiving treatment at isolation wards in hospitals throughout Sarawak, with the total number of deceased patients unchanged at 17,” he added.

Uggah noted that there are 61 new persons-under-investigation (PUI) cases and one is currently awaiting laboratory test results.

On the statewide monitoring of standard operating procedure (SOP) compliance, he said the surveillance team comprised of 645 personnels had inspected 2,113 locations which include 365 supermarkets, restaurants (440), factories (13), banks (181), government offices (82), hawker centres (33), markets (97), places of worship (125), recreational areas (71), construction sites (32), and others (674).

He added that six roadblocks conducted in five districts throughout the state as part of Ops Benteng.

The roadblocks comprise two locations in Lundu and one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu with a total of 1,250 vehicles inspected, he said.
