KUCHING: The water supply disruption that often plagued residents in Selalang, Sarikei ended after the Sarawak government developed five projects.

According to the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB), the five projects, costing RM2.1mil, were implemented to solve the problem.

“Previously, it was difficult for residents to carry out their daily affairs due to frequent water supply disruption,” JBALB said in a statement on Tuesday (July 21).

The upgrading work carried out included the replacement of pipes at Kampung Hilir, Simpang Kop, Kampung Baru Selalang, Kerubong and Jalan Masjid Baru as well as the distribution of high-level tanks in Kerubong to Selalang.

The projects had a huge impact on the residents of Selalang, including Kerubung, Kampung Baru, Kampung Hilir and Kampung Bunga Tanjung.

“Now the locals enjoy better water supply than previously as a result of the ongoing efforts of the Sarawak government through the Sarawak Utilities Ministry and JBALB.”

The statement also said Utilities Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom hoped that JBALB would ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated time.
