MIRI: A 31-year-old local man from Kampung Tudan Phase 3 here was nabbed for allegedly threatening a shophouse owner and his wife with a machete (parang).

The arrest was made following a report lodged by the 51-year-old shop owner.

The suspect was detained by a team of Miri Criminal Investigation department (CID) personnel at a bus stop nearby Kampung Tudan Phase 3 this morning.

Also seized was a machete believed to have been used in the incident which occurred in front of the complainant’s shophouse in Desa Indah 1 on Friday night.

According to sources, the suspect had gone to the shophouse armed with a 61cm long machete.

Upon his arrival, he hit the front door of the shophouse multiple times with the parang.

Prior to the incident, the complainant and his wife were just closing their shop for the day.

The footage of incident was caught by a dash cam of a car that happened to pass by the area.

The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.
