KUCHING: The State Arts Council (MSS) and Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture will be hosting two events highlighting the Sarawak Symphony Orchestra (SONS).
The first event, themed Sarawak Musical Harmony Performance “Sejambang Budi, Daripada Anak Seni”, will be held tomorrow at 8pm, and Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud will be present to officiate at the function.
The other event, themed Sarawak Musical Harmony Performance People’s Leader Presentation “Hati ke Hati”, to be declared open by the Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg will take place on Oct 24 at 8pm.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that there would also be a special performance for Taib in conjunction with his 84th birthday.
“The other objective of this event is to give recognition to Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib on his contribution to elevate the value of the arts. Thanks to his wisdom, we are able to see the arts and development in Sarawak go hand-in-hand to this day,” said Karim.
Sarawak Musical Harmony Performance People’s Leader Presentation “Hati ke Hati” follows the concept of a musical journey where it revolves around the crisis of the Covid-19 pandemic which began in Wuhan, China.
“The show will feature digital multimedia, as well as dance expressions (ekspresi tari) accompanied by music played live by SONS.
“The performance will also feature Malaysia’s success in combating the pandemic, the government’s efforts in assisting the citizens, as well as how Malaysia was praised by the world’s doctors in dealing with the pandemic,” Karim added.
On the objective of Sarawak Musical Harmony Performance “Sejambang Budi, Daripada Anak Seni”, Karim said that it was a means to revive the creative industry and revitalise the tourism and arts sectors in Sarawak.
“The performance is made to give appreciation to frontliners who are involved in combating the pandemic,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were Tourism, Arts and Culture Assistant Minister Sebastian Ting, MTAC permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee and Sarawak Arts Council CEO Sharkawi Amit.
