KUCHING: Sixteen new positive Covid-19 cases were reported in the state on Tuesday (Oct 27), making the total number of cases statewide 819.

State Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, in announcing this, said all cases were locally transmitted with 12 cases involving the Baki Cluster.

“Twelve new cases were detected through active case detection (ACD) in Kampung Haji Baki. These cases underwent screening on Oct 24 and rT-PCR results on Oct 25 found they were Covid-19 positive.

“All cases have been in close contact with the index case. These cases range between the ages of seven and 75 years;   three are primary schoolchildren, two secondary schoolchildren, five adults, and two senior citizens.

“Only one case developed symptoms and all cases have been admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) isolation wards for further treatment,” he told a press conference on Tuesday (Oct 27).

Uggah revealed that three of the cases were detected through close contact screening at private health facilities here.

He said the cases were close contacts of Case 798 reported on Oct 26.

“The results of the rT-PCR test found that these cases were positive for Covid-19 on the same day and all cases have been admitted to SGH isolation wards for further treatment,” he said.

Uggah revealed that one of the cases was also detected through ACD carried out by State Health Department on Oct 26.

“The case is a local man doing business in an area in Kuching City. The case was screened on Oct 25 and the result of the rT-PCR test on Oct 26 found that the case was positive for Covid-19,” he said.

Uggah revealed that four cases were under further investigation to find the true causes of infection.

“Close contact tracing activities are in full swing. Until the causes of infection are known, these cases will be categorised as locally transmitted cases based on the early history of their movements.” he added.
