KUCHING: Police have set up 10 roadblocks throughout Kuching in view of the imposed conditional movement control order (CMCO) as well as enforcing inter-district travel ban to and from the district.

The roadblocks are located at Jalan Matang (E-Mart Roundabout), Jalan Temenggong Tan Meng Chong, Jalan Kuching-Samarahan Expressway, Jalan Datuk Bandar Mustapha, Jalan Matang to Kampung Paroh, Jalan Lapangan Terbang, Jalan Stapok, Jalan Depo Link, Jalan Kuching-Serian (near Ting Kargo), and Jalan Expressway Kota Samarahan-Kuching (Kuap Bridge).

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said a total of 232 personnel from the police, army, and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) are stationed at these roadblocks.

Kuching is placed under CMCO for 14 days from Nov 9 until Nov 22, after a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases in the district were reported in the last 14 days.

Because of that, movements from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Labuan into the state are not allowed except with permission from the police.

On compounds issued to errant individuals who did not comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places, police had issued six compounds, namely two each in Kuching and Kota Samarahan, and one each in Miri and Sarikei.

“Apart from that, the Ministry of Local Government issued 119 verbal, written, and seizure warnings in areas under the supervision of various local councils,” he said.

Under Ops Benteng, 1,574 vehicles were inspected through seven roadblocks in six districts; two in Lawas and one each in Lundu, Bau, Serian, Sri Aman and Lubok Antu.
