KUCHING: The efforts and cooperation between the public, Sarawak Community Policing Association (SCPA) and Bintawa police station had led to the arrest of two crime suspects in the area.

SCPA secretary David Xavier Hii Chin Loung said on Jan 8 at about 1.24pm, a resident of Bintawa reported about persons behaving suspiciously outside gated premises and a picture of their motorcycle was also captured and other details were recorded.

He said on the same day at about 9.30pm, Bintawa police station deputy chief, Sergeant Siti Mariam together with four members of the Bintawa Community Policing team led by Ngo Chun Hun conducted a crime prevention patrol at Bintawa area.

“Upon conducting the patrol, the team found the suspicious persons and their motorcycle which matched the descriptions as reported by the resident,” he said.

He said the two suspicious persons were then apprehended as they were suspected of trespassing into a gated premise at Taman Riverview.

“The owner of the gated premises has also lodged a police report on Jan 9 after discovering signs of breaking-in and losses at his premises,” he said.

Hii thanked the community for being the eye and ear of the police in the prevention of crime.

“We want to thank the community of Bintawa for being vigilant and alert, and would also like to thank the police officers at Bintawa police station for the prompt response and assistance,” he said.

He pointed out that community policing is collaboration between the police and the community with the aim of preventing crime at their respective communities.

“Hence, this case clearly shows the effectiveness of this collaboration with the suspects being apprehended,” he said.
