KUCHING: Miri City Council (MCC) is organising a photography competition themed ‘The Unique Local Fruits’, with winning photos to be featured in a new edition of the Miri City Coffee Table Book entitled ‘Miri – Uniquely Borneo’.
MCC said it would like to showcase local tropical fruits in this upcoming publication.
As such, the council is collaborating with the Miri Photography Society for this competition, with the latter to organise the appeal for suitable photographs on behalf of MCC.
“There will be 10 winners. Prizes will be RM200 cash for each selected photograph and a free copy of the table book,” said the council in a statement today (Apr 29).
The competition is open to all citizens and permanent residents residing in Miri,
There is no entry fee for the competition and the submission deadline is before noon on May 18.
Each entry must be attached with a duly completed entry form, and emailed with the name of the subject of the email as Local Fruits Photography Contest to miriphotographic@gmail.com.
MCC said the file name for each image should be clearly labelled with the participant’s name, IC number, mobile phone number and the name of the fruit.
“Submitted images should be in JPEG format digital image files and they should not less than 2MB and not more than 4MB. Each participant can submit a maximum of 20 photographs for the competition,” it said, adding that the organiser reserved the right to reject images with incomplete details required under the photo submission page.
The council said digital manipulation which distorted the reality of the images would not be allowed; only basic enhancements such as sharpening, contrast adjustment, or simple cropping were allowed.
“Each image submitted must be the original and unpublished work of the participant, who must also be its copyright owner,” it added.
The images will be selected by a panel of judges and their decision will be final.
The council also said all entries meant that participants had read and agreed with the rules and regulations of the competition.
By submitting images for the competition, MCC said participants would be regarded as having granted the organiser the right to use the images in print broadcast and/or electronic media without any fee payment for the purposes of promoting the competition or areas related to the organiser’s work.
They said the prize awarding ceremony would be made known in due time.
