KAPIT: The second army field hospital in Malaysia, located at Dewan Masyarakat Melayu Kapit, is capable of accommodating 40 patients at a time.
A spokesperson from the First Infantry Division said the field hospital in Kapit is the second one after the successful operation of the first (field) hospital in Tawau, Sabah.
“The hospital will serve as a treatment centre for non-Covid-19 patients. It is capable to accommodate 40 beds and patients at a time.
“The field hospital is expected to reduce the treatment burden of non-Covid-19 patients.
“The hospital’s operation involving seven medical doctors and 35 various ranked medical assistants, is expected to begin on May 10 (Monday) where they will also be assisted by medical staff from Kapit Hospital,” the spokesman said.
The comprehensive assistance from the Malaysian Air Force (MAF) in coordinating flights to transport medical assets from Kuching and Kuala Lumpur, has facilitated the process of establishing the hospital.
Today (May 8), Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing and Deputy Health Minister II Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, accompanied by First Infantry Brigade commander Major General Datuk Dzulkafli Mustaffa and Ninth Infantry Brigade commander Brigadier General Shamshor Jaafar visited the field hospital to monitor its progress.
They were briefed on its operation by the First Medical Battalion commanding officer Lieutenant Colonel Dr Saiful Ju@Ju Ahmad, who is the mission commander of Kapit field hospital.
The renovation of Dewan Masyarakat Melayu Kapit to army field hospital was planned by Shamshor and it involved seven officers and 69 members of various ranks, including 13 members of Regiment 510 Territorial Army (Askar Wataniah) troops.
The spokesperson said the military’s offer to the Sarawak government to set up an army field hospital manifested the army’s concern and readiness to assist in fighting the Covid-19 threat in the country.
