LAWAS: Over 5,000 litres of oil were affected by the mix-up between petrol and diesel oil at a petrol station in Lawas town here recently.
Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism (MDTCC) Limbang branch head, Zakaria Awang revealed that the incident happened on Sunday afternoon.
He added 20 vehicles including cars and motorcycles which were filled with mixed oils were damaged.
The petrol station operator, he said, had admitted responsibility in the case.
Accordingly, after being informed, (MDTCC) investigated the incident and found that it was due to the mistake of the oil truck operator who inserted hoses containing diesel oil into the petrol storage tank, he explained.
During the incident, the petrol station operator was outstation and work to monitor the charging of oil supplies into an underground storage tank was performed by an oil station employee.
Zakaria said the petrol station operator was prepared to bear the costs of cleaning the affected engine engines and refilling the oil.
He added his enforcement team would continue to monitor and ensure that the “mixed” oil storage tanks were cleaned and emptied.
“They have also taken oil samples from each oil pump to be sent to the Chemistry Department in Bintulu for analysis purposes,” he revealed.
“We are satisfied with the actions and responsibility of the petrol station operator and will ensure everything is safe before closing the case,” said Zakaria.
