MIRI: Support the state in its effort to restore the economy and don’t create more hatred and divisions among Sarawakians to hinder the work of the government.
Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Publicity and Information Secretary Adam Yii yesterday (Oct 18) made this appeal to Sarawakians. He was defending the state government’s recent decision to relax the conditions for fully vaccinated individuals to enter Sarawak.
In his statement yesterday (Oct 18), he also slammed certain irresponsible politicians for manipulating the issue.
“The government is grieved to see the rakyat greatly affected by the pandemic. For the economy to revive, the government must have a series of strategies to restore the economy.
“Many netizens have voiced their opinions on the government’s decision in response to some irresponsible comments initiated by certain politicians and some had taken a step further to make this a political issue by opposing the decision of the state government,” he pointed out.
“Apart from this matter, these individuals also made several deceptive comments regarding the proposed amendments to the Federal Constitution, stating that this is just another tactic used by the ruling coalition for the upcoming Sarawak election.
“After nearly two years of being hampered by the pandemic, we now have a mutual enemy: Covid-19. It is critical for us to now unite irrespective of race, religion, beliefs, political stances, background, social hierarchy, occupation, etc, to revive the economy and come out of this pandemic victoriously together,” he said.
Yii added that reopening the borders was only one of the many strategies to revitalise the state’s economy. He called on everyone to stand by the government.
All the latest standard operating procedures (SOPs) formulated were with the best interests of the rakyat and for the economy to revive, the government must have a series of strategy to restore the economy, he said.
Yii welcomed the government’s decision to relax the SOPs to enter Sarawak, adding that it would result in an increased number of flights and daily visitors to Sarawak in due time.
In addition, Sarawakians were now able to travel to Sabah, Labuan and Peninsular Malaysia more conveniently for business purposes or to visit family members, he said.
On the proposed amendments to the Federal Constitution, he pointed out that it had been the focus of the government since the leadership of the late Chief Minister Pehin Sri Adenan Satem to strengthen Sarawak’s autonomy.
The matter was not raised due to the state of emergency, but now that the Parliament seating had resumed, the proposed amendment would be tabled on October 25, 2021 and be debated in the Parliament.
“This goes to prove that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government is focused on the Sarawakians’ desire to strengthen the state’s autonomy in accordance to MA63,” said Yii.
