MULU: Incumbent Datuk Gerawat Gala will be re-nominated to defend the Mulu constituency in next month’s state election.
Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) chairman Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg announced this after performing an earth-breaking ceremony of the Mulu sub-district administrative centre here on Thursday (Nov 25).
“I’m retaining (Datuk) Gerawat for Mulu seat. This is my assurance to you, to ensure a continuity of the development that we have planned via the Highland Development Agency (HDA),” he said.
Abang Johari asserted Gerawat was able to work well together as a team with Baram MPAnyie Ngau, and he believed they could further enhance the development in the region.
“With the good teamwork (between Anyie and Gerawat), I am confident that development planning we’ve established under HDA will be implemented smoothly, considering that Mulu is a sub-district administered by many young and creative officers,” he said.
On the development of the Mulu sub-district centre, Abang Johari believed it would open up more opportunities for the local community and those in the surrounding areas.
For record, there are 13 villages located in Mulu area.
Mulu was elevated as a sub-district in 2015, during former Chief Minister the late Tan Sri Sri Adenan Satem’s tenure.
“I assure you, Mulu will transform, more developments are coming in and this includes electricity and clean water supplies,” Abang Johari said.
Abang Johari added that the state government had planned to build a link road connecting Miri, Marudi up to Long Terawan. When the project is completed in four years time, it will not only shorten the journey to one hour and forty minutes, but also boost up tourism in the area.
“It’s not a hot air talk because I delivered what I have promised to the rakyat … unlike the opposition,” he said.
Both Gerawat and Anyie were present at the event.
