Appointment as DPM a recognition to Sarawak

MIRI: The new Cabinet line-up which has been unveiled on Friday, has for sure attracted the attention of the two Borneo states -Sabah and Sarawak bloc, who definitely want the rights of the people (of Sabah Sarawak ) to be fulfilled as stipulated in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

The Chamber of Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneur (DUBS) Miri chairman Mohammad Hafidz Rohani described the appointment of Datuk Seri Fadilah Yusof as Deputy Prime Minister as a recognition to Sarawak.

“Sarawakians have been waiting for this moment, armed with his long and extensive experience in the previous cabinet, I believed he (Fadillah) will definitely be able to bring the voice of the state more effectively,” he said.

Even though the portfolio of the Ministry of Public Works is being filled up by Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, Hafidz believed that he would be able to continue the implementation of road facilities and infrastructure for these two states.

“I hope that the Sabah-Sarawak Link Road (SSLR) which connects Sabah and Sarawak, without passing through Brunei will be expedited,” Hafidz pointed out.

On the appointment of Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing as Tourism Minister, he said it also showed the confidence of the federal government in ministers from this state.

He said Tiong’s experience was expected to bring more changes to Sarawak’s tourism industry as well.

“As entrepreneurs, we are certainly looking forward to policies to be carried out by Datuk Ewon Benedick, who is appointed as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, I’m confident that more assistance will be rendered to new entrepreneurs under his leadership,” he concluded.
