SIBU: The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries, and Performing Arts will continue to support Sibu International Bike Week (SIBW) to ensure that the festival will continue for years to come.

Its minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said that he believed that organising a festival like SIBW has many benefits for those involved in sales entrepreneurship and so on.

“To a certain extent, they will also reap the profits from sales. Apart from that, those who come to be together tonight will be able to entertain themselves,” he said.

He said this in his speech when officiating at the opening ceremony cum the 10th anniversary of SIBW at Dataran Tun Tuanku Bujang Phase 2, on Friday (Dec 3).

The Asajaya assemblyman noted that Sibu International Bike Week is the biggest bike festival in Sarawak.

“To those who come to visit the city of Sibu for the Sibu International Bike Week, I hope that all of you, ladies and gentlemen, can enjoy the beauty found in this city and also what can be obtained in this city of Sibu.

“Welcome to these people and have a safe return. To the organisers of Razz Chopper, I say well done and congratulations for the 10th Anniversary Sibu International Bike Week, it is the 10th year and it was held quite well,” he said.

SIBW was not only attended by participants throughout Sarawak but also from the neighboring countries which are Brunei and Indonesia.

George Janang, one of the riders from Brunei said that what excited him the most was experiencing nine-hour ride from Brunei to Sibu using the Pan Borneo Higway just to come to the festival.

“It’s a very long ride, but a long ride is always fun. The challenge I faced together with my 52 teammates along the ride was only the weather.

“In terms of the organisation, it is very great. Hopefully, next year, many more supporters and bikers from abroad will come here,” he said.

During the event, the organiser, Razz Chopper also donated some funds to An-Nur Sibu Mosque.
