BETONG: Kuntau practitioners have been urged to continue teaching and practising the traditional Dayak martial arts.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah emphasised the importance of preserving this cultural heritage for future generations.

As such, he stressed the need for consistent efforts from Kuntau instructors.

“The instructors must be consistent in their efforts so that we can preserve this cultural heritage of ours for our future generations. Having the proper instruction and regular training classes will ensure this.

“Our Kuntau instructors too should have the proper ‘kelang’ or training arenas for the benefit of their students,” he said during a courtesy call by Mahaguro Serit Bili of Gelanggang Ujan Panas Spring 36 at the Spaoh subdistrict office on Friday.

On the same note, Uggah, who is the Bukit Saban assemblyman, expressed his satisfaction with the active promotion of the art by many instructors.

“I am very happy to note that there are still many instructors actively promoting the art. This augurs very well for the upkeep of our culture and tradition,” he added.
