MIRI: Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud who passed away early Wednesday morning was a political giant of his generation, said the Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP).

Its secretary-general Datuk Sebastian Ting credited this accolade to Taib’s outstanding services and huge contributions to the country.

“For Malaysia as a whole, and for Sarawak in particular, the late Taib’s departure is definitely a huge loss,” he said.

At state-level Taib led his party, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu Sarawak (PBB), together with SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Parti Demokratik Progresif (PDP) to form a stable government, he said.

“This consolidated the unity and harmony of the people of all ethnic groups in Sarawak and laid the foundation for today’s harmonious Sarawak,” he added.

SUPP, said Ting, appreciated Taib’s great contribution to the economic, education and political development of Sarawak.

“We would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib and the late Tun Pehin Sri’s family members,” he said.
