KUCHING: The Sarawak E-Sports Association (SESA) president Afiq Fadhli Narawi and Prodigy Music Centre founder and principal Sharnaz Saberi are the recipients of this year’s Sarawak Youth Award 2022 for the male and female category respectively.

The award was presented to them by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg during the closing ceremony of the Sarawak Youth Day 2022 celebration held at Dataran Perayaan Petra Jaya on Saturday (Oct 22).

The duo proudly took home a cash prize of RM5,000, a trophy and a certificate each.

Speaking to reporters after receiving the award, Afiq said that he was happy to receive the award and dedicated it to his parents as well as the youth who had supported him.

“I hope that with this award, it can inspire more youth in Sarawak to be more advanced and drive the development of the country,” he said.

In his hope for Sarawakian youth, he called on the youth to work together with the state government in the development of the state.

“The involvement of the youth is very important to ensure that the government’s agenda in developing the state can be achieved.

“So, my hope for the youth in this state is that they continue to commit and move holistically together to develop this state in various aspects including the economy, social, and education,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sharnaz said she felt touched to be able to be given such an award.

“I feel that an award serves as an encouragement to bring more youth to work hard in the area of youth development in Sarawak,” she said.

She also said Sarawak is on the right track in developing its talent through the various programmes and initiatives that are put in place.

Later, the Premier also presented the Sarawak Youth Award 2022 for the association category.

The recipients were Komuniti Belia Sadong Jaya who won the gold award, while Kelab Permata Belia Halaman Kurung Sian won the silver award.

Earlier, Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, in his speech, said that the purpose of the awards was to give recognition to the youth who are involved in various social and community activities that had a positive impact on those who need attention, support and help.

“Surely, our youth icons will inspire and be the best role models for their peers.

“We also hope that more young people will give solid support and be actively involved in various registered youth associations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he said.
