AgriCOP in Bintulu educates local farmers on modern agriculture techniques

BINTULU: One hundred participants from Rh Jawang Mat, Bukit Sekubong, Sebauh attended the Agriculture Community Outreach Program (AgriCOP) held recently.

The Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) Datuk Seri Dr. Stephen Rundi Utom said the programme aimed to convey information related to modern agriculture that can increase the agricultural yield.

“The Agriculture Department is tasked to create policies that are profitable and improve the farmers’ economy.

“Therefore, AgriCOP helped in delivering information relating to agriculture in a modern way, and we must adapt to modern technology by implementing new ways,” said Dr. Rundi, who is also the Kemena assemblyman.

During the programme, participants were briefed on the procedure to obtain a licence by the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB), as well as demonstrations of the safe use of poisons from Plant Biosecurity and Quarantine Division under the Agriculture Department.

At the event, Dr. Rundi handed over the Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant of RM30,000 to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) of Rh Jawang Mat.

M-FICORD deputy minister Martin Ben, Pakan assemblyman Tan Sri William Mawan Ikom, Agriculture Department director Dominic Chunggat, M-FICORD acting permanent secretary Dr. Gluma Saban, Bintulu Resident Nyurak Keti, Department of Veterinary Services Sarawak director Dr. Adrian Susil Ambud, and others also attended the programme.
