KUCHING: Generous contributions and donations from the public allow the Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society to help little warriors like Stephanie fights cancer.

Stephanie is a 10-year-old girl from Bintulu who was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma (a type of brain cancer) in Dec 2021.

After her tumour removal surgery in Miri, Stephanie was referred to the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) here for subsequent medical treatments.

Her elder sister, Kartini who was only 17-year-old then had to step in and took up the role of a caregiver as their father had to stay back in Bintulu to work and care for their mother, who has a medical condition.

Due to Stephanie’s critical condition, she was admitted to the hospital ward for 14 long months.

The society stated that because of the donations from the public, they were able to sponsor Stephanie’s medical consumables worth about RM1,502 while providing a total of RM6,300 in financial aid to help reduce the family’s financial burden.

The society also provided a care pack and diapers to help Stephanie adjust to life in the ward.

“In January this year, Stephanie was finally allowed to return home after completing intensive treatment of more than a year. As she requires a ventilator at home to help with her breathing, we purchased a portable ventilator costing RM65,000 for her home usage.

“We also funded an ambulance service worth about RM2,400 to transport Stephanie home safely due to her limited mobility. The whole journey back home took about seven hours,” it said in a social media post.

As part of the good wishes for Stephanie and Kartini, the society organised a farewell party with the medical team to celebrate this milestone.

“For Stephanie alone, we have supported more than RM75,000 to help in her cancer-fighting journey. This is only possible with the love and support of our generous donors.

“A little help goes a long way and can positively change the course of treatment for a little cancer fighter,” it said.
