Anwar expected to visit Sarawak for two days

KUCHING: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to be in Sarawak for a two-day official visit this week.

This will be his first visit to Sarawak as the 10th prime minister since he was sworn in on Nov 24 last year.

According to reliable sources, Anwar will be in town from Jan 19 to 20.

He is expected to arrive around 4pm on Thursday (Jan 19).

Thereafter, the 76-year-old will head to the residence of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg before attending a state banquet at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).

The next day (Jan 20), Anwar will chair the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) committee meeting at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN).

The meeting is expected to discuss matters concerning Sarawak and Sabah’s autonomy on public projects worth below RM50 million, official gazetting of the status of Sabah and Sarawak as regions and the formula for the special grant increase to Sabah and Sarawak based on Article 112D of the Federal Constitution.

The source also revealed that a press conference on the outcome of the meeting will be held.

Anwar will then attend Friday prayers at Masjid Jamek before heading to Khubah Ria for lunch with the public.
