KUCHING: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has listed out four promises to Sarawakians if PH wins the 15th general election (GE15).

He said the first was to ensure the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) be amended.

“Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) have not given importance and recognition to ‘wilayah’ Sabah and Sarawak over the last 50 to 60 years.

“We will ensure that the MA63 is passed by our effective effort and actually implement it but not just passing the legislation and constituently amended,” Anwar said at the ‘Tawaran Harapan Untuk Sarawak’ press conference here on Today (Nov 12).

He added that he would place importance on the devolution of power between Sabah, Sarawak and the Peninsular in order to strengthen the country.

“Putrajaya should respect Sabah and Sarawak and let them handle by themselves issues regarding education, health and basic infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

“I believe both ‘wilayah’ understand the needs of their own people.

“But, the devolution of power would be based on clear outline of terms and conditions to avoid wastage and corruption from happening again,” Anwar noted.

He also offered “renewed” fair governance, multiracial and multireligious agenda to Sarawakians.

“Do not take this election lightly because this will determine the landscape and future of our country.

“It is a choice for all of you whether you want racism to continue in this nation where BN and PN during their governance will always pick up racial issues as a card for them to gain support,” Anwar reminded.

Last but not least, Anwar promised that PH would protect the rights of the people of Sarawak, Sabah and the Peninsular.

“I can assure you that we will protect the rights and interests of the people throughout Malaysia, regardless of whether you are from Sarawak, Sabah or Peninsular Malaysia.”
